| Down Home Bread Pudding 3 1/2 cups of milk a loaf of stale bread, broken into cubes 1/2 cups of margarine 1 1/4 cups of sugar 4 egg yolks, beaten a pinch of salt 2 teaspoon of vanilla cinnamon nutmeg 1 cup of raisins, soaked in rum 1 can of fruit pie filling |
Instructions: Heat the milk in saucepan. Remove from the heat. Add bread. Soak until soft, but not mushy. Blend the margarine and sugar until creamy. Add the eggs, salt, vanilla, and spices. Add the bread mixture to this. Mix in the raisins and apples. Pour into a greased casserole dish. Place the casserole dish into a pan with boiling water. Bake for 40 minutes at 350ºF. Serve with Whiskey Sauce. Whiskey Sauce Over low heat, melt 1/2 cup butter with 1 cup sugar in saucepan, stirring often. Add 1 well-beaten egg. Stir. Remove from heat and cool. Add whiskey (1/4 c. minimum, more for adults!) and 1 1/2 cups heavy cream. Blend until light and fluffy. Refrigerate 1 hour. |
