Whole Wheat Rye Bread

1 tablespoon of salt
3 tablespoons of sugar
2/3 cup of dry milk
2 1/2 cups of water
2 packages of yeast
3 tablespoon of shortening
2 1/2 tablespoons of white Karo syrup
2 1/2 tablespoons of molasses
1 cup of whole wheat flour
1 cup of rye flour
4 1/2 cups of white flour

Soften yeast in warm (105º) water. Add all ingredients except flour and mix well. Add whole wheat and rye flour and stir well. Add white flour until cannot stir in. Knead in enough flour until smooth and satiny, about 10 minutes at least. Round up in greased bowl and let rise in warm place. Punch down and put into 2 greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pans. Let rise again until double. Bake at 350ºF. for 30 minutes and then at 325ºF. for 20 more minutes or until dark brown and hollow-sounding.
