Scottish Milk Scones

2 ounces of butter or margarine
1 egg
1/2 pint of buttermilk
1 teaspoon of sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 pound of self-rising flour

Melt butter, beat egg, add both to buttermilk. Mix well together. Add dry ingredients. Mix to soft dough. Turn out on floured surface. Knead lightly. Cut off pieces of dough and flatten by hand. Prick with fork. Bake at 400ºF.10 to 15 minutes. *Knead dough as little as possible.
